Well-preserved medieval buildings stand alongside modern architecture, and just outside the city, the archipelago of 24 000 islands is waiting to be explored. Sights of interest include the Vasa Museum, Skansen Open Air Museum, City Hall, the Old Town (Gamla Stan) and much more. Accommodation in Stockholm.

Day 02

Stockholm

Breakfast at the hotel. This day is at your own leisure in Stockholm. Accommodation in Stockholm.

Day 03

Stockholm – Mora (train)

Breakfast at the hotel. This morning is at your own leisure before departure by train around noon. After approximately 4 hours you will arrive in the village of Mora, which is beautifully located by Lake Siljan in the Dalarna region. Dalarna is known for its traditional midsummer celebrations, hand carved Dala-horses, international festivals, red wooden houses, sausage specialties named Falukorv, cheerful folk music and impressive mountain regions. Accommodation in Mora.

Day 04

Mora – Östersund (Inland Railway)

Breakfast at the hotel. This morning is at your own leisure in Mora. We recommend a walk along Lake Siljan, or maybe your would prefer to go for a swim? A visit at the Zorn Museum is also recommendable. Anders Zorn is famous amongst other things for his nude paintings, portraits and aquarelle paintings. In the afternoon it is time to climb aboard the train for your journey on the Inland Railway to Östersund. This unique railway will bring you through inland Sweden, with remote lakes, forests and mountains. Onboard the train you will find knowledgeable guides providing information as to everything that passes by outside the train’s windows. The train will slow down as you pass the waterfalls Storstupet and Helvetesfallet, which were used for timber floating, so you can see nature’s own drama. You will also be able to see – and perhaps even crawl into – a real bear’s den by the railway. A 30-minute dinner stop is also included before reaching Östersund, located on the shores of Lake Storsjön in Jämtland. Accommodation in Östersund.

Day 05

Östersund – Trondheim (train)

Breakfast at the hotel before the journey continues via Åre, a well known ski resort, and across the boarder to Norway. Around noon you will arrive in Trondheim, Norway’s third largest city. The city was founded by Viking King Olav Tryggvason in 997, and occupies a special place in Norwegian culture and history. Trondheim was Norway’s first capital and continues to be the coronation city where Norway's kings from Harald Hårfagre (10th century) to King Harald V (1991 -) have been crowned and blessed. We recommend a visit at the Nidaros Cathedral, built over the grave of St. Olav. Next to the cathedral you will find the Archbishop’s Palace, the oldest secular building in Scandinavia. Other sights of interest are Kristiansten Fortress, the Monk’s Island, Trøndelag Open Air Museum and Stiftsgården – the Royal Residence in Trondheim. We also recommend a stroll in Bakklandet, located on the east bank of the river Nid. Here you will find old wooden buildings which were formerly worker’s dwellings but are now partly restored as homes or charming shops and restaurants. Accommodation in Trondheim.

Day 06

Trondheim – Bergen (Hurtigruten)

Breakfast at the hotel before embarking on a cruise with Hurtigruten along the spectacular Norwegian coastline. Hurtigruten is often referred to as the world’s most beautiful sea voyage, and it is a journey through history and maritime culture. The cruise follows through the Trondheimfjord and along Trondheimsleia channel, before continuing southwards to Kristiansund and Molde. Kristiansund is the home of dried fish production while Molde is known for its breathtaking location with panoramic views of the 222 partly snow-clad mountain peaks (Romsdal Alps).
