Day 01
Oslo – Lillehammer (train)
Arrive at Oslo Airport Gardermoen, and continue by train to Lillehammer, the charming town that hosted the Winter Olympic Games in 1994. In Lillehammer we recommend a visit at Maihaugen Open Air Museum. The museum reveals the past of the people living in the Gudbrandsdal valley dating back almost 300 years. Also recommendable is a visit at the Olympic Arena (Lysgårdsbakken), where you can go tobogganing. Accommodation in Lillehammer. |
Day 02
Lillehammer – Trondheim (train)
Breakfast at the hotel. Departure by train from Lillehammer to Trondheim. The 5-hour journey on the Dovre Railway will bring you through the snow clad scenery of the Gudbrandsdal Valley and across the Dovre Mountain to Trondheim, Norway’s third largest city. The city was founded by Viking King Olav Tryggvason in 997, and occupies a special place in Norwegian culture and history. Trondheim was Norway’s first capital and continues to be the coronation city where Norway's kings from Harald Hårfagre (10th century) to King Harald V (1991 -) have been crowned and blessed. We recommend a visit at the Nidaros Cathedral, built over the grave of St. Olav. Also recommendable is a stroll in Bakklandet, located on the east bank of the river Nid. Here you will find old wooden buildings which were formerly worker’s dwellings but are now partly restored as homes or charming shops and restaurants. Accommodation in Trondheim |
